CEO, Kerbey Lane Cafe

Mason Ayer can trace many of his early childhood memories to the Kerbey Lane Cafe’s original location in Central Austin. As the son of Kerbey Lane Cafe’s founders, David Ayer and Patricia Atkinson, he was literally born into the business. He remembers walking around as a five year old with a paint scraper, tasked with scraping gum off the bottom of the tables.

A desire for a change of scenery after growing up in Austin landed Mason at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, where he graduated magna cum laude. He attended law school at the University Of Virginia School Of Law and graduated with a J.D. He returned to Austin to practice corporate and securities law for a number of years, but he didn’t have the passion to make it his career.

Mason decided to return to his family’s restaurant in 2010 to oversee operations. After being named CEO, Mason realized his passion for the industry and finds it deeply satisfying to see the restaurant busy and watching team members working together and having fun, while also seeing guests smiling and enjoying their food.

Mason is a member of the Texas Bar and the Westlake Chamber of Commerce. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Christina, and their Labradoodle, Charlie. When he is not busy at work, he spends his time reading, exercising and playing golf.
