Give back to our community through service work
At United Way for Greater Austin, we believe that anyone can be a philanthropist, whether it’s through giving monetary donations or giving time. That’s why we run Hands On Central Texas (HOCT)- the largest volunteer network in Central Texas.
Hands On Central Texas works to inspire, equip and mobilize volunteers to create change in our community. Additionally, our Volunteer Project Leader (VPL) program is part of a national training initiative that aims to transform casual volunteers into active community leaders by equipping them with the leadership skills and tools they need to make meaningful and lasting change in their communities. You can learn more and sign up for VPL trainings below.
For Individual Volunteers
To browse current projects near you or sign up to volunteer, individuals should check out the HOCT database. We will update you when volunteer opportunities come up throughout the year, including our Days of Caring that run in the spring and fall. In addition to all United Way for Greater Austin volunteer events, you can also view and sign up for volunteer opportunities with dozens of other local nonprofit organizations.
Need some extra help using the database? Attend a Volunteer Project Leader: Getting Involved workshop.
Hands On Central Texas also coordinates corporate volunteer activities as team-building projects.
Volunteering as a corporate team improves employee morale, builds stronger bonds among coworkers, helps employees understand how your company gives back and fosters pride in your company. Every year, Hands On Central Texas helps hundreds of businesses engage their employees in community-changing volunteerism in a variety of one-time and recurring ways. Depending on your goals for your corporate volunteerism, your budget and your timeframe, HOCT staff can work with you to plan a volunteer event that will be both fun for your employees and impactful for the Austin community.
