Building Blocks of Opportunity

United Way for Greater Austin is on a mission to fight poverty, and we do that by bringing people, ideas, and resources together. We address complex community issues by investing in the building blocks of opportunity that every person – and every community – needs to thrive: education, health, and financial stability.

Success in life begins with a quality education. That’s why we ensure children get a strong start in life and are ready to succeed in Kindergarten and beyond.

Ninety percent of all brain development occurs in the first five years of a child’s life. What happens in these early years has a lasting impact from Kindergarten readiness to third-grade reading scores to high school graduation and beyond.

A person’s zip code should not determine their access to quality healthcare. We connect people with affordable healthcare, healthy foods, and basic needs supports so everyone has an opportunity to thrive.

Financial Stability

Families and individuals are facing financial obstacles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. We fight to ensure everyone in our community has the resources and opportunities they need to build a strong financial foundation and thrive.

In the three focus areas of education, health, and financial stability, United Way unites the community around collective goals, strategically invests in partners working to achieve those goals, and executes proven programs aligned with those goals. We lead systemic change that increases opportunity for people with low income in Greater Austin — so they can reach their full potential.

Something special happens when we Live United.

When we work together to build a stronger community, we are sparking a movement bigger than anything we can do alone.
