Improving the lives of Williamson County families now and for future generations is the focus for many local businesses that invest time and resources in the work of United Way of Williamson County through their annual workplace campaign.

At an annual awards celebration held at Mel’s Lone Star Lanes on May 10, 2013 more than 20 local businesses were recognized for their commitment to investing locally in education, income, health and basic needs programs that help Williamson County residents improve their lives. In the past year, United Way of Williamson County (UWWC) Campaign Partners have invested more than $500,000 in grants and an additional $70,000 in designations to nonprofit agencies in Williamson County and the wider community.

“As our area continues to experience rapid population growth, our ability to respond to families finding themselves in need of help will have to grow as well,” said Hugh Brown, CEO of St. David’s Georgetown Hospital and UWWC Vice-Chair. “Thank you for trusting United Way of Williamson County and for working with us to invest in education, financial stability and health programs in our community. Our collective impact changes lives for generations to come.”

State Farm Insurance received three awards during the presentation: Outstanding Employee Campaign, Large Campaign of the Year, and the Community Builder Award. These awards demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to the values and goals of United Way of Williamson County and signify an increase in overall employee giving during the most recent campaign.

The Board of Directors selected Mel’s Lone Star Lanes in Georgetown as Partner of the Year recognizing their commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all residents through their efforts to Give, Advocate and Volunteer in the community – the three core ideals of the United Way movement.

Additional awards presented at this year’s event went to Oncor as small campaign partner of the year and two awards for Campaign Partner of the Year. Sandy Kotara of Atmos Energy and the campaign team at Texas Guaranteed Student Loan received recognition for their team commitment to the work of United Way of Williamson County.

Speaking on behalf of the selection made by United Way of Williamson County’s funded agencies, Robert Pinhero, Executive Director of The Literacy Council of Williamson County announced Southwestern University as the Volunteer Partner of the Year. “Southwestern’s core values align well with ours. We both change lives and give back to our community,” said Pinhero. “The students and faculty do so much for us and so much for many of the agencies here today. Students give more than 23,000 service hours each year helping more than 100 local nonprofits and agencies.
